Original abstract
Abstract Multilevel inverters are widely used in high and medium power systems owing to their ability to generate a high-quality output with less stress on the devices and improved efficiency. However, the traditional multilevel inverter configurations are associated with an increased number of switches, complex control and uneven voltage stress distribution. The purpose of this study is to design a proposed 9-level multilevel inverter that can be expanded to higher levels by cascading the basic modules. The proposed topology, when controlled using the third-harmonic injected pulse width modulation (THI-PWM) technique achieves improved DC bus utilization and minimize harmonic distortion. The proposed inverter is compared with various other topologies and investigated the performance of the proposed inverter through simulation and hardware results. The proposed one has high conversion efficiency, minimum voltage stress on the power switches and efficient harmonic suppression. The output voltage and current waveforms satisfy the IEEE 519 harmonic standards and the consistency between the simulation and hardware results confirms the validity and reliability of the proposed system.
