Original abstract

The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has become an important step toward sustainable transportation. This study examines the level of awareness, perceived benefits, challenges, and factors influencing the adoption of electric vehicles in Ernakulam district. The research is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from 100 respondents using a structured questionnaire through simple random sampling, while secondary data were obtained from books, journals, websites, and newspapers. The findings indicate that environmental awareness, rising fuel prices, and lower operating costs encourage EV adoption, whereas high purchase costs, inadequate charging infrastructure, and range anxiety remain major barriers. The study suggests that improving charging facilities, increasing public awareness, and strengthening government support can accelerate EV adoption in Ernakulam.
