Original abstract

This study presents the design, modelling and experimental validation of a 1kW isolated dc-dc Ćuk converter like a solution designed for residential photovoltaics (PV) applications, emphasizing the importance of proper energy management and operational flexibility. The examined converter supports both grid-connected and off-grid operating scenarios, designed to function at power levels suitable for standard residential loads. The research presents typical operational scenarios, like varying load demand and variable energy production from renewable sources. System-level modeling and performance evaluation are realised to validate the converter's suitability for residential application. Simulation-based validation is conducted in the CASPOC environment to evaluate voltage and current behavior across critical components, confirming theoretical design assumptions. A digital control and monitoring framework is implemented using a DSP-based control platform combined with an ESP32-enabled communication interface, enabling remote monitoring via a CAN-to-Wi-Fi gateway and a dedicated graphical user interface. Experimental testing demonstrates stable operation, proper voltage regulation, and compatibility with PV-to-battery energy transfer scenarios. The research indicates that the proposed converter structure provides an attractive option for residential solar systems, improving operational flexibility and efficiency. The study highlights power electronics as an essential enabling technology for developing robust and environmentally friendly household energy infrastructures, focusing on isolated operation and interoperability with energy storage in both grid-connected and off-grid contexts.
