Abstract: In 2026, India has emerged as a global fulcrum for the transition to renewable energy, balancing the dual pressures of rapid economic expansion and urgent climate mitigation. This chapter examines the nation's transformative journey toward its 2070 net-zero commitment, highlighted by the landmark 2025 milestone where non-fossil fuel capacity reached 51.9% of the total energy mix (267 GW). By synthesizing the most recent data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the International Energy Agency (IEA), and contemporary field research, we analyze the scaling of solar and wind infrastructure, the strategic pivot toward Green Hydrogen, and the integration of advanced energy storage systems. While technological maturity and the falling levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) have democratized energy access through schemes like PM-KUSUM, the transition faces persistent structural headwinds, including grid integration bottlenecks, transmission losses, and regional developmental disparities. This study underscores that India's "Viksit Bharat" 2047 vision is fundamentally tethered to its ability to surmount these challenges through policy innovation and circular economy frameworks. Ultimately, India's trajectory serves as a definitive blueprint for emerging economies seeking to decouple industrial growth from carbon intensity in a volatile climate era.
