Original abstract
Luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) is one of the promising (semi-)transparent solar harvesting devices. In this work, we employ aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens), TPA-BT and TPA-NT, which retain high photoluminescence quantum yields in the aggregated state and efficiently convert ultraviolet and blue photons into red emission. This spectral conversion offers a dual advantage: it matches well with the spectral response range of silicon photovoltaic cells (600-900 nm) for efficient electricity generation, while simultaneously providing photosynthetically active radiation (400-700 nm) to promote plant growth. Large-area LSC devices (1600 cm2) were fabricated and evaluated under greenhouse conditions over a 14-day testing period. Among them, the TPA-BT LSC device demonstrated a daily electricity output of 1.75 Wh, corresponding to an estimated annual energy yield of approximately 2.7 kWh/m2. Importantly, this spectral conversion also delivered clear agricultural benefits, with plants grown under the LSC devices exhibiting significantly higher fresh weight (42.7%) than those grown under control conditions. By integrating these LSCs into greenhouse structures, we demonstrate a practical agrivoltaic platform that simultaneously generates renewable electricity and enhances crop productivity.
