Original abstract
Utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects connected through high-voltage substations depend on the successful integration of many technical, organizational and contractual interfaces. In Saudi Arabia, fast-track delivery and the involvement of developers, project companies, consultants, EPC contractors, grid stakeholders and equipment vendors increase the consequences of unclear design ownership, provisional information and delayed decisions. This paper presents a practical governance approach for managing design interfaces in Saudi solar PV and high-voltage substation projects. It combines a focused review of interface management, project integration, design development and Saudi construction-project literature with anonymized observations from professional practice. The paper identifies practical controls including clear responsibility allocation, interface registers, information-readiness checks, decision tracking, assumption management, configuration control, escalation and evidence-based closure. It does not claim measured performance improvements; its contribution is a structured operating approach that can be applied and further evaluated on future renewable-energy projects. Author’s note: This research was conducted in a personal capacity and reflects the author’s professional analysis of project-delivery practices. It does not represent the official position of any employer, client, contractor, consultant, government authority or project stakeholder.
