Original abstract
This paper presents a simulation-based research study on a 2 MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) battery energy storage system (BESS) developed in MATLAB/Simulink.The system includes a PV array, MPPT controller, DC-DC boost converter, battery storage unit, voltage source inverter, transformer, utility grid and three-phase load. The objective is to assess how battery integration improves power stability, renewable energy utilization and grid compatibility under variable irradiance conditions. The thesis results show that the PV array produced approximately 95 kW under the displayed low-irradiance case, while the battery supplied approximately 225 kW with a very small SOC reduction from 71.00% to 70.96%.Grid power remained around 1.21-1.22MW and load power remained stable at approximately 1.496-1.497MW.The grid THD was below 1% and load THD was below 0.01%, indicating excellent power quality. The results validate the effectiveness of PV-BESS integration for renewable smoothing, load support and stable grid-connected operation.
