Original abstract
The main focus of this study is on optimizing an Autonomous Energy System (AES) composed of Photovoltaic (PV) generators, a Wind Turbine (WT) generator and an Energy Storage System (ESS).Moreover, the main objective aims to define the optimal system requirements for each subsystem to minimize total wasted energy, thereby improving the global efficiency and autonomy of the system.Frequently, a significant amount of renewable energy is wasted when demand is fully satisfied and the storage system is completely charged, thus leading to underutilization of available resources. Most importantly, the optimal configurations of PV, WT and ESS were determined in this study to minimize total energy losses.Besides, the simulation considered local conditions, including solar irradiation, ambient temperature, wind speed and the energy demand profile of a city in Skikda, Algeria. In addition, we carried out an optimization using a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm implemented in MATLAB.The results show that the application of the loss-minimization approach effectively identifies the optimal capacity for each system component, thereby reducing total energy losses and improving the global efficiency and utilization of the energy system, accordingly.
