Original abstract
Abstract Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted substantial attention in photovoltaic research due to their rapid gains in efficiency. This has led to increased interest and investment from both businesses and governmental organizations in advancing PSCs technology. Despite ongoing advancements, PSCs face several key challenges, including stability, toxicity, cost, material production, and fabrication processes. These challenges currently limit the widespread adoption of PSCs. One promising approach for utilizing PSCs as a next-generation photovoltaic technology is their integration into building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). The integration of high-efficiency and semi-transparent PSCs into BIPV is still an emerging area. This review aims to assess the potential for PSCs integration within the BIPV industry. It highlights the role of PSCs in promoting energy conversion and their ongoing progress in addressing the challenges of increasing energy consumption and environmental impacts, which are critical for BIPV adaptability. The review also emphasizes the importance of understanding the range of materials and devices suitable for PSC integration into BIPV. It not only explores the apparent advantages of PSCs in terms of market demand and challenges but also discusses innovative strategies for modification and comparative potential within the BIPV sector.
