Original abstract
The emergence of renewable energy technologies has positively contributed to filling the energy gap created by increased demand for energy use in todays’ world. This has been possible through the advancements in its efficiency, storage, and digital integration. This review aims to compare research results in the various renewable energy space geothermal, hydropower, biomass, solar, wind, and hybrid systems and to evaluate their technological progress, sustainability. Results show that the reduction in costs, and increased innovation have accelerated the use of renewable energy technologies in various economies, yet critical challenges persist in material sourcing, grid integration, and remote access to renewable energy technologies. Renewable Energy Technologies have potentials to control global climate issues and provide optimum power supply. However, this will depend on regional interest and ability to invest in the various renewable energy technologies through targeted policies. The study concludes that the next phase of the global energy transition depends on technological innovation, and good policy design to achieve net-zero targets emissions.
