The Smart Residential Load Simulator (SRLS) is a freeware MATLAB/Simulink-based software platform developed under the auspices of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to facilitate the study of residential energy management systems in smart grids. The simulator provides a comprehensive graphical interface for modeling residential electrical appliances and distributed energy resources, including thermostats, air conditioners, furnaces, water heaters, refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, clothes washers, dryers, lighting, pool pumps, photovoltaic systems, wind generation, and battery energy storage systems. SRLS enables users to evaluate household energy consumption, electricity costs, renewable energy integration, and energy management strategies while considering ambient temperature, solar irradiance, and household activity levels. The software is intended for researchers, educators, and students studying residential energy management and smart grids. Version 2.4 includes improvements to solar irradiance calculations, thermostat schedule-mode operation, a fixed predefined ground temperature for the house thermal model, and the ability to load ambient condition data directly from the MATLAB workspace.
